Dr Austin Obichere MBBS, MD, FRCS

Founder & Managing Director

Dr Austin Obichere is a Consultant Surgeon University College London Hospital (UCLH) & Hon. Senior Lecturer University College London, United Kingdom. He is also the Director of the bowel cancer screening programme at UCLH and is a National (JAG) accredited expert endoscopist / trainer with over 25 years’ experience in the field. Dr Obichere remains passionate in his quest to educate and train Nigerian clinicians in the art of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and is the founder & CEO of D&TEC - the first purpose designed endoscopy suite in Nigeria providing a world class endoscopy service for the local population delivered directly by London based Consultant Gastrointestinal Surgeons.

Benedict C. Nwomeh MBBS, FRCS, FACS, FAAP, FWACS

Director

Dr. Nwomeh provides strategic direction for the training mission of D&TET. He is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Ohio State University, and serves as the Director of Surgical Education and Associate Director for the Pediatric Surgery Training Program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH). Dr. Nwomeh trained in the UK and US, and is a fellow of several colleges including the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatrics, and West African College of Surgeons. As Surgical Director of the Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Inflammatory Bowel Disease at NCH, where upper and lower endoscopy is utilized for all patients with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease. Dr. Nwomeh has extensive experience in leading teams of surgical specialists to train doctors in Nigeria and other West African countries in research, Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), and Endoscopy skills. He is active in global surgery education, and co-edited the book Pediatric Surgery: A Comprehensive Textbook for Africa (2011).
